Gabor Boritt talked about his book The Gettysburg Gospel: The Lincoln Speech That Nobody Knows. The guest interviewer was James Swanson. Topics included the fact that the Gettysburg Address was Lincoln's first public speech since his inauguration and was one of only seven or eight speeches given during his presidency. He also told the story of Lincoln going to Gettysburg the day before the speech to walk the battlefield. Hungarian-born scholar Gabor Boritt is a professor and director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. He has authored or edited sixteen books about Lincoln and the Civil War, including The Historian's Lincoln and The Lincoln Enigma.

Lincoln's Sanctuary: The Soldiers' Home

Mr. Pinsker talked about his book, Lincoln's Sanctuary: Abraham Lincoln and the Soldiers' Home, which depicts Lincoln and his family moving into a small cottage in Washington, D.C., on the grounds of the Soldiers' Home, a residence for disabled military veterans. Lincoln lived at the Soldiers' Home for a quarter of his presidency, and for nearly half of the critical year of 1862.

Judge Williams, chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, talked about his book Judging Lincoln, published by Southern Illinois University Press. He also showed some of the illustrations in the book of items from his collection of Lincoln memorabilia. The book is a collection of essays Williams wrote about President Lincoln over the past twenty years.

Mr. Steers talked about his book, Blood on the Moon: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In his book, Steers asserts that John Wilkes Booth was neither mad nor alone in his act of assassination against President Lincoln. He received the help of many, not the least of who was Dr. Samuel Alexander Mudd, the Charles County physician who has been portrayed as the innocent victim of a vengeful government. Steers argues that Booth was also aided by the Confederate leadership in Richmond.

Mr. Bennett discussed his book "Forced Into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream," published by Johnson Publishing. He argued that President Lincoln was a racist whose political mentor was Senator Henry Clay, a Kentucky slave owner. He also contended that Lincoln supported fugitive slave laws. And he talked about his long career in African-American journalism.
